The site offers Orange customers a range of services including a message alerting them via phone if they have received e-mail; online customer service support which also allows bills to be paid; an online calendar which sends an alert as an email or text message about appointments, as well as news and sport information.

Further services to be unveiled include: listings for theatre, cinema, gigs and comedy, travel information, directories and last minute offers.

Hans Snook, CEO of Orange, commented: "Orange has always had a vision of a world where people can communicate wherever, whenever and however they choose. orange.net makes this vision a reality by bringing together the drivers of the communications revolution, the mobile phone and the internet. Orange is unshackling the web from the restrictions of fixed line delivery, giving people interaction with the internet without the need for a phone line or cable-link."
