New technology in the outdoor sector has led to a boom in revenue, growing from a base of just pounds 100,000 five years ago to around pounds 8.7 million by the end of this year.

The growth, spearheaded by the development of video walls, screens and interactive kiosks, has been revealed by Outdoor Connection's report on new technology.

Breaking down the growth of new formats, the sector generating the most growth is the leisure environment, accounting for 82 per cent of new technology revenue last year. It is expected that future growth will be driven by the transport sector, with the development of projection advertising by TDI.

The report forecasts, how-ever, that by the end of the year the development of new technology will be more evenly spread.

Leisure is expected to account for 36.7 per cent of projection, televisual and digital inter-active outdoor technology compared with 32.9 per cent for transport.
