PA New Media’s internet listings service Eventselector is set to
recruit sales staff after boosting its advertising and sponsorship team
with two senior appointments.
Sales for the service were previously handled by DoubleClick, but have
now been taken in-house under the new advertising and sponsorship
manager Daniel King.
At the same time, Jake Redford has joined as commercial manager, with a
brief to develop e-commerce partnerships. Redford previously worked at
clubbing magazine Jockey Slut, where he was responsible for advertising,
marketing and promotion. King was formerly the advertising manager at
Emap Finance.
Redford confirmed that Eventselector would be ’building a (sales) team
from scratch very soon’. It will also run its own advertising campaign
in December, although an agency has yet to be appointed officially.
Launched earlier this year, Eventselector uses the Press Association’s
listings database to provide a continuously updated guide to what’s on
at 60,000 venues in the UK. But Redford stressed: ’It’s more than just a
listings service. We draw on the experience of PA’s journalists to
provide comprehensive reviews and previews, as well as news coverage of
artists, premieres, tours and exhibitions.
The service has also signed deals with ticket agencies First Call and
The Way Ahead Group, enabling users to buy tickets over the web. It can
also provide video clips of live events, ’so if you’re not sure whether
to buy tickets for the Charlatans in Brighton, you can get an idea of
what the gig might be like,’ Redford explained.
Redford and King report to PA New Media’s commercial director Vivienne
Adshead. She commented: ’These appointments are a major investment in
Eventselector and this is more than justified by the interest shown by
our distribution and e-commerce partners.’
Eventselector is distributed via internet portals Freeserve, AOL,
Netscape and Cable & Wireless.
