Partners BDDH has produced a national 96-sheet poster campaign to

launch The Guardian Century, a ten-week partwork that covers significant

events of the century as they happened.

The posters use a traditional newspaper line with a twist: ’Re-read all

about it.’ The ads continue: ’Read now what we said then. The 20th

century in ten free parts, Saturdays in The Guardian.’ They conclude

with the newspaper’s strapline, ’Free thinkers welcome.’

Topics covered include the Vietnam war, Nelson Mandela’s imprisonment

and the birth of the aeroplane. The Guardian Century will use stories

taken from the newspapers of the time.

John Dean, the creative director of Partners BDDH, said: ’The ads were

designed to show The Guardian bringing a fresh perspective to the

century. It’s ’see it as it happened’, with all the raw immediacy of

frontline reporting, rather than once removed as the history books and

documentaries might see it.’

The posters were art directed by Greg Milbourne and written by Jason

Fretwell, Steve Nicholls and Matthew Anderson. Media is handled by New

PHD.
