Paul Weiland Films signs Melvin from Blink

The Paul Weiland Film Company has signed Trevor Melvin, the

acclaimed commercials director, from Blink Productions.

Melvin, who had been at Blink for eight years, directed well-known spots

including the silver BTAA winner "anniversary" for British Meat, and

"Dave" for anti-drink driving, which won a gold at the BTAA and a silver

at the Creative Circle Awards.

Melvin began his career as an art director at Grey in 1980. He moved on

to become a group head at Yellowhammer before joining Young & Rubicam as

a board director. While at the agencies he worked across British Gas,

Mercedes-Benz, Kodak, NME, Lee Jeans, John West, Sugar Puffs and

Mansfield Clothes, for which he won a gold Clio for best art


Melvin moved into directing at Blink in 1994 after his short film, The

Dogs, was successful at independent film festivals, winning prizes in

Montreal and Hamburg.

Melvin's recent work has included Kit-Kat, Hovis, Radio Times and the

initial ITV Digital campaign starring the comedian Nick Hancock.

His commercial for Capital Gold won four bronzes at the 1996 Creative

Circle and BTAA awards.
