PHD scoops £3m Whitbread account

Whitbread Restaurants has appointed PHD to handle its £3 million media planning and buying business.

The account, which covers brands including Beefeater and Costa Coffee, moves from Starcom after a pitch against undisclosed agencies. Star-com, which had held the consolidated Whitbread brief for two years, did not repitch.

PHD's signing follows the selection of ZenithOptimedia to handle media for the Whitbread-owned hotel chain Premier Inn (Campaign, 16 October). The appointments follow a pitch process that was called by Whitbread in August. After talks with agencies, it decided to split the restaurant and hotel accounts.

Recently, Whitbread hired Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R to handle creative activity on the Premier Inn business.
