Pick & Turkey league (01 April 2011)

The new television spot for Visa gets Matt Williams into the Olympic spirit but Jeremy Lee sees nothing but turkey in the latest Bernard Matthew's ad.

Matt Williams is pleased that Saatchi & Saatchi has proved in its new television spot for Visa that it is possible to do a good Olympics ad: “A lot of the ads surrounding London 2012 have been dull and felt quite forced, but this spot is fun, engaging and inspirational. Using The Courteeners for the soundtrack was a great choice too.” The ad was written by Ollie Wolf, art directed by David Goss and directed by Thomas Hilland through Final Cut/Prime Focus.

Marco talks turkey in this Isobel spot for Bernard Matthews; Jeremy Lee says the spot lives up to its subject matter: “If you’re going to rip off the sublimely brilliant Steve Coogan/Rob Bryden vehicle The Trip, at least try to do it well. But this spot doesn’t. While a new approach for Bernard Matthews is a bold idea, watching the slightly sinister Marco Pierre White engaged in forced conversation about turkey with the equally slightly sinister Martin Kemp just doesn’t seem the right strategy.”
