Put away your handycams. The blockbuster was back in 1999 with one of the most expensive ads in Guinness’s history - ’surfers’, directed by Jonathan Glazer for Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO. The music was great, the special effects staggering and, shock, horror, it even worked as a piece of advertising. The ad shot straight to number 34 in Campaign’s recently published Hall of Fame, which lists the top 100 British ads of the century.
