Lead delivery agency of the 2014 Ryder Cup, Visit Scotland, collaborated with DF Concerts & Events to organise the celebratory concert. The show was curated by Kim Gavin, creative director of Gavin HQ, who lists the London 2012 closing ceremony and 2007’s Concert for Diana in his portfolio of projects.
Alongside the Scottish contingent, English artiste Jake Bugg also performed on stage. He was joined by talent from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and the National Theatre of Scotland.
Singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald was accompanied by the RSNO for a performance of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark to welcome Team America to the stadium, before disco band Chic made a special appearance to close the show.
Gavin said: "The Ryder Cup is one of the most exciting events in the sporting calendar and to have the opportunity to work on two of the biggest sporting events in the world - Ryder Cup and London 2012 closing ceremony - is a dream come true for me."
Geoff Ellis, chief executive of DF Concerts & Events, added: "The Ryder Cup gala concert was a tremendous success and a great curtain raiser for the Ryder Cup itself. To bring together a smorgasbord of musical, and arts talent plus the greatest golfers in the world on one stage has been once-in-a-lifetime experience and I’m thrilled to have shared it with thousands of people at the SSE Hydro.
"It’s been one of the most exciting and unique events we’ve ever worked on as a company, and I hope it was a night that all ticketholders will remember forever."
