Pitch Update

The Volkswagen pan-European roster pitch is progressing with the next stage for competing agencies coming up.

Shops including Mother and Adam & Eve, as well as Italian, German and Spanish agencies, are involved in the review, which is co-ordinated by Agency Assessments and is being run out of Wolfsburg in Germany. Further meetings with agencies are taking place at the end of this month, with a decision expected in April.

The aim of the review is to assess whether to appoint other agencies to the roster to pitch for projects alongside the brand's 42-year incumbent, DDB. Sources close to the pitch suggest that Omnicom has been working hard to develop a group solution for the car giant and is determined to ward off the threat of other agencies being appointed.

The £10 million pan-European pitch for the satellite navigation manufacturer Garmin is nearing the end of the road. Grey has been knocked out of the running, leaving Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO and M&C Saatchi. The long-running pitch is now at the research stage, with a result due in the coming weeks.

The Consumer Financial Education Body has narrowed its search for an ad agency down to two candidates, AMV BBDO and DLKW Lowe, as CHI & Partners and Leo Burnett have been knocked out of the running. The body is run by the Financial Services Authority and advises consumers on managing their money.

Agencies are nervously preparing themselves for the result of a review that was first mooted more than a year ago. Yes, the BBC pitch process is finally reaching its conclusion, and the winners are due to be announced next Wednesday (9 March). The two incumbents, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R and Fallon, are both vying for a place on the roster, alongside Karmarama, JWT London, The Red Brick Road and Dare.

The biggest media pitch of the year so far took place this week with the shortlisted agencies for the £87 million DFS account - Mindshare, MediaCom, OMD and Brilliant Media - making presentations to the client. A result is due within two weeks.

The Tourism Australia media pitch is well underway, with the incumbent, Carat, OMD, ZenithOptimedia and MediaCom shortlisted for the £70 million international business. Local presentations are due to be wrapped up by the end of the month, with a result sketched in for the beginning of April.
