Pitch Update

After a quiet time, the world of media has moved into pitch frenzy mode. Media agencies were put on the treadmill last week by a sudden burst of global, blue-chip activity. Sony Ericsson demanded RFIs be turned around within days, and agencies believe a shortlist will be drawn up as soon as the end of this week.

Meanwhile, a number of agencies - including the incumbent, Walker Media - have submitted RFPs to Barclays and are waiting to hear if they have made it to stage two of the global media review.

The Muller media review has also progressed with the incumbent, MediaCom, facing PHD and Starcom MediaVest in a pitch at Muller's Zurich headquarters.

OMD, the EMEA incumbent, is waiting to hear the results of the worldwide pitch for Sara Lee, which has also seen Group M agencies and the Aegis-owned Vizeum challenge for the business.

As with all official tenders, the Royal Mail advertising review is trundling along in the usual regimental way. Five agencies are understood to have met with the organisation this week, and an appointment is expected to be made by the end of the month. Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, the previous incumbent on the business, declined to take part in the process. Media agencies are waiting to hear on the Royal Mail search business.

The £3 million Florette pitch emerged just last week but already the client is working busily with the AAR and has drawn up a long list of agencies for chemistry meetings. An agency is expected to be in place by the end of August.

Real Radio, the GMG Media-owned brand, has shortlisted Big Al's Creative Emporium, TBWA\Manchester, Meteorite and the incumbent, Clear Marketing, to pitch for its account this week. The AAR is also working on the process.
