Pitch Update

Have you ever been told you couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery? If so, you will be heartened to hear that the brewers themselves might even struggle in that area. We hear that the advertising pitch for the consortium of brewers, working with

the British Beer & Pub Association, has been suffering from some organisational hitches.The agencies pitching for the business (101, DLKW Lowe, Now and Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R) were supposed to be briefed last Friday. However, the five brewers involved couldn't agree on timings so nothing happened, which means that pitches scheduled for 7 March might also be delayed.

Those who like to buy their fashion at a bargain price might be interested to learn that TK Maxx is searching for a digital agency to handle its online advertising. The high-street brand recently approached agencies directly, inviting them to pitch for the business. The appointed shop will create online work to amplify the brand's current TV advertising, created in-house. A visit to the Hammersmith TK Maxx store is highly recommended by way of research.

The race for Bulmers' £3 million advertising account has begun in earnest. Agencies pitching for the business had chemistry meetings with the client this week. The process is being run by AAR.

And the intermediary is also holding chemistry meeting for the BT Business advertising account this week. A shortlist is expected soon.

Agencies are lining up to pitch for Burger King's direct marketing account, which is being handled by the intermediary Agency Assessments, in two weeks' time. The fast-food company, which last year appointed CHI & Partners to its UK ad account, is understood to have four shops vying for the business.

Agencies are becoming bored with waiting for EDF Energy to make up its mind about which shop to appoint to its digital account. A result is finally expected next week. And agencies lining up for EDF's direct marketing account have also been left in limbo with slow movement on the pitch.

Specsavers has tested media agencies with initial meetings and has now decided on a shortlist that includes WPP's MEC (the incumbent), Aegis Media's Vizeum and Omnicom's Manning Gottlieb OMD. The pitch for the £39 million account is expected to come into focus with a briefing on 23 February, and the pitches will take place shortly afterwards. However, a result is not expected until after Easter.

The shoot-out between Publicis Groupe's Starcom MediaVest Group and WPP's Mindshare for the global Heineken account is due to commence at the end of the month. MediaVest UK handles the UK chunk of the business.
