Pitch update

Well, PHD is keen to swipe Cadbury off Starcom. This week, it dressed agency staff up in Cadbury-branded T-shirts and handed them banners with the words "welcome to the pleasure dome" emblazoned across them in Cadbury script.

The poor staffers had to stand around Tottenham Court Road as a kind of welcoming committee, guiding the potential client to the agency's front door. Well that's PHD's suggested strategy for Cadbury out of the bag.

Sick of waiting for a Homebase result? So are we at Campaign Towers. Anyway, there are whispers going around town that might explain the lack of a result between the two finalists, Leo Burnett and CHI & Partners. Some say that CHI, in its customary style, has pulled a blinder with Homebase's most senior management team. However, the day-to-day marketing team is rumoured to favour Leo Burnett.

We hear Legal & General has put its media pitch on hold until September. Yes, that's the same pitch that has invited no fewer than nine agencies to contest its £3.5 million account. Creativebrief is overseeing the long, drawn-out process.

Also delaying this week is SMA, going through the AAR. We hear that scheduled chemistry meetings have been put on hold temporarily, while SMA staff deal with a product recall.

Lincolnshire Tourism is looking for creative and media agencies to handle its £300,000 account. We hear the organisation has already been bombarded with interested shops - more than 80 enquiries to date. However, some of our big- cheese sources are shrugging off the opportunity, given the, well, small scale of the budget. Shame on them for not spotting the opportunity. One of the most famous ads of all time, "Skegness is so bracing", was for the region.
