Pitch update

Maybe it's the weather, but this August seems to be quieter than ever. Pitches are few and far between and generally have been put on hold while agency and marketing folk alike look to abandon soggy Britain.

Anyway, the matchmakers concur that we have reached rock-bottom and we should see some more action taking place from next week.

Of course, there's one notable exception: Stella Artois. It has invited Euro RSCG, Mother and Publicis to pitch for its global business.

Pundits favour Mother's chances, mainly because it recently charmed the 4 per cent account out of the brewer. However, the shortlist suggests that InBev still feels the need for a network with outposts in every country. How old-fashioned.

Virgin Trains appears to have shortlisted three for its creative account. There have been unconfirmed sightings of glue, Albion and Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy (partnered with Elvis) on the list.

Meanwhile, for luvvies of luxury brands, the media pitches for both Hermes and Swarovski will reach a nail-biting conclusion shortly. Hermes is due to name its new media agency on Monday next week, while Swarovski's media pitch is due to conclude on 17 September.
