Jay Pond-Jones has made his first senior hiring as the Bates
Dorland creative chief by capturing Ogilvy & Mather’s star team of Clive
Yaxley and Jerry Gallaher.
The pair, who have a string of awards to their names and previously
directed O&M’s creative work for Guinness, will take leading roles on
Dorlands’ Heinz, Center Parcs and the Nouvelle tissues business.
’They are bringing proven creative firepower to the department,’
Pond-Jones said.
Gallaher, 38, a writer, and his art director, Yaxley, 39, who fill the
gap left by Jon Canning’s departure to take creative control at Court
Burkitt & Co, will also join the agency’s board.
Their switch to Dorlands ends an eight-year association with O&M where
they created the high-profile ’black and white’ campaign for
Guinness.
Their other credits include Fisherman’s Friend, Rowntree’s Jelly, Golden
Wonder Wotsits and Winalot. They have collected golds and silvers at
Cannes and the Creative Circle as well as silvers at the Campaign Poster
Awards.
Pond-Jones, who had been looking for a heavyweight team for several
months, met Yaxley when they were both on a D&AD judging panel earlier
this year.
’They feel right for us because they are passionate about doing good
work,’ Pond-Jones said.
