The poster buying specialist, Poster Publicity, has poached Mills
and Allen’s sales director, Paul Shearring, to fill its newly created
deputy managing director post.
Shearring, who joined M&A just under two years ago, will work under PP’s
managing director, Eric Newnham. He has already started work at PP,
having given in his notice at M&A last week.
Shearring will oversee the poster buying side of PP’s business, freeing
Newnham to concentrate on client servicing.
Newnham said PP’s billings have grown by more than 50 per cent since he
took over as managing director in 1992. ’We needed to strengthen our
senior management. We remain the only truly independent specialist and
its important we continue to invest in our team,’ he added.
Shearring and Newnham used to work together at the buying specialist,
Portland Outdoor, and Shearring said he had decided to return to the
buying side because of the fresh opportunities the sector offered.
’There’s been a lot of consolidation among the poster contractors and
that raises fresh challenges,’ Shearring said. ’Buying is not just about
buying packages but about improving targeting and understanding what
outdoor can deliver.’
Meanwhile, M&A has filled the gap left by Shearring’s departure by
making Kevin Shute sales director.
Shute, the national sales manager of M&A since he joined the company in
1992, will take responsibility for all agency and specialist sales
activity. Colm O’Cuilleanain, the chief executive of M&A, described
Shute as ’a first-rate salesman’.
