United Distillers and Vintners, the spirits and wines company, has

appointed Premier Magazines to produce a contract title targeted at its

employees, customers and suppliers worldwide.

Premier won the business following a pitch against six other undisclosed

companies. The magazine, which has yet to be named, will be published in

July and will be distributed internationally with an initial circulation

of 25,000. It will be launched as a bi-annual publication, before going

quarterly.

Premier’s editorial director, Mark Jones, said: ’UDV’s feeling about its

business is that it’s very brand-led, so we will be delving into the

brands. But the magazine will also have a social function, looking at

where people drink and why they drink. It will be showing how UDV

understands its markets as opposed to telling people how to do

things.’

The magazine will be edited by Alex Garrett, a business and marketing

journalist who has worked for Campaign and The Observer’s business

section.

The publication will use a square format with glossy pages. According to

Jones, it will be ’surprising for people who are expecting it to look

like a corporate publication’.

This is the first contract publishing title for UDV since it was created

from the merger of United Distillers and IDV last year. It has a monthly

electronic publication, UDV News, which is produced for employees by the

Item Group.
