Price squeeze is top concern for telemarketers

Downward pressure on pricing is the chief concern of UK telemarketers, according to the Marketing Direct 2005 telemarketing survey and league table, published in this issue (see page 33).

Procurement officers, the low-cost services provided by offshore suppliers and over-capacity in the UK are all cited as causes for falling prices.

One respondent said: "Clients see the prices offered by some contact centres and believe that they should receive the same price for any work they're conducting."

Another described the UK telemarketing sector as one of "diminishing returns, where prices are falling and our single biggest cost, labour, is rising."
