- Publicis has acquired a 49 per cent stake in US agency the Burrell Communications Group for an undisclosed sum.

Burrell, which is based in Chicago, is the US's largest agency specialising in advertising and marketing to the African-American community.

The agency, which will keep its name and current management structure, has been looking for a partner for sometime. The deal will give it the added resources it needs to grow both domestically and globally.

In a statement Maurice Levy, worldwide chairman at Publicis, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity, as the future of advertising in the United States will be determined in part by its ability to reach the nation's economically powerful and culturally influential minority communities."
