Quinn and Norcutt's Planet Granite spot takes August Aerial

The Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO team Laurence Quinn and Mark Norcutt has won the August Aerial Award for best radio ad.

The pair's "Mills & Boon" spot for the kitchen-fitting company Planet Granite was judged to be the best, with a second ad from the same campaign named as the runner-up.

A spoof of the Mills & Boon romantic style, the ad features a woman awaiting the return of her husband at the end of the day, apparently for a night of passion. She doubts he is romantic enough for her but is won over by his entrance.

The ad concludes with the revelation of the words used by the woman's husband: "'I have found a fantastic worktop for the kitchen at Planet Granite UK.com.' Right then and there, she knew she had married the right man."

The Aerial judges, Andy Drugan and Simon Friedberg of St Luke's, said: "It's well written, with lots of double entendres and great story-telling through strong direction. They clearly had fun making the three scripts."

The winner of the monthly Aerial Award, organised by the Radio Advertising Bureau and run in association with Campaign, goes forward to the annual awards ceremony.
