RAB overhauls Aerial Awards voting system

The Radio Advertising Bureau is overhauling its annual Aerial Awards, which are held in association with Campaign.

Instead of a vote by assembled creatives on the night of the awards, the winners of the 2006 Aerial Awards will be decided in an online vote by a panel of creatives.

The panel, called the Aerials 100, will include senior creatives such as Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO's Peter Souter, Mother's Robert Saville and JWT's Nick Bell. Also on the list will be clients and celebrities, such as the comedian Armando Iannucci, who have starred in radio ads.

The panel will vote online in January, ahead of the announcement of the winners at the Cafe de Paris on 21 March.

New categories will also be introduced into the awards. These include Radio Agency of the Year, Radio Advertiser of the Year and Radio Voice Actor of the Year.

Al Young, the executive creative director of FCB London and the joint chairman of the Aerial Awards, said the changes "keep the 'people's choice' feel of the old Aerial Awards, but also make it possible for the most senior creatives to take part in the vote".
