The RAC is planning the next phase of its advertising with its
’virtual agency’ despite the imminent departure of its group strategic
director and instigator of the virtual concept, Jan Smith.
Smith, who announced her decision to leave the company on Tuesday, was
responsible for putting together the team, which she preferred to
working with a full-service agency, after being drafted in to relaunch
the company in April.
However, Smith’s departure in January will not prevent the advertiser
from continuing to use the arrangement at least until the end of 1998.
Meetings are scheduled between the RAC and various members of the team,
including John Dean and Simon Green, creative partners of Partners
BDDH.
Dean admitted that he had only been told of Smith’s decision to leave
the company a day before its public announcement. However, he confirmed
that he and Green had contracts to work on the RAC’s creative strategy
until the end of 1998, through their freelance company, Source.
He said: ’The next five years don’t necessarily have to be steered by
Jan.’
