Marks & Spencer has hired Marc Bolland, the man responsible for reviving WM Morrison, as its new chief executive. Bolland will replace Sir Stuart Rose, who will remain a chairman capacity until July 2011.

Ferroro and Hershey's decision to launch a rival bid for Cadbury led to a sharp rise in Cadbury's share price from 9.5p to 797.5p. The duo of confectionary giants will have joined forces in order to compete with Kract's £9.8 billion offer.

Mothercare has unveiled plans to open 33 new stores by the end of 2011, creating around 400 jobs.
The move comes after its underlying profits rose 11 per cent to £10 million. The stores will take the format of large wholesale stores.

The BBC is gearing up to reveal the salaries of a small group of its "top talent" as part of the BBC's quarterly release containing the salaries and expenses of its top 100 executives.
