Maiden Group, the outdoor media owner, has acquired the supermarket
poster contractor, Adlight, for pounds 15 million. Adlight has 3,200
six-sheet poster sites at supermarkets around the UK, including Asda and
Kwik Save. Maiden already has the contract for poster sites at Safeway
Future Publishing has bought itself out from Pearson for pounds 142
million. The management buyout was led by Future’s chief executive, Greg
Ingham, and the company’s founder, Chris Anderson, who is to be
non-executive chairman, and backed by the venture capital company, Apax
Partners. The deal involves all Future’s existing titles as well as
those published by its French sister operation, Edicorp SA, and the
commercial Website, FutureNet. A new umbrella company has been created
called Future Publishing Holdings.
Diet Tango is to sponsor Gayle’s World on the Paramount Comedy Channel
from next week after the show’s star, Gayle Tuesday, revealed her
fondness for the drink. HHCL & Partners has created sponsorship credits
for the show and Diet Tango will also sponsor Tuesday’s current UK
Cosmopolitan has appointed the branding agency, Jaffe Keating, to create
a print campaign for its new range of swimwear which launches in the May
issue of the magazine. The agency has devised a competition where
readers can win a Caribbean holiday and items from the Cosmopolitan
Buitoni, the Italian food manufacturer, has signed a sponsorship deal
with Classic FM which centres around a 13-week series showcasing
Italian-themed operas. The pounds 100,000 campaign, which begins in
June, includes sponsorship of Classic FM’s Sunday night opera slot,
radio ads, a trails package, competitions and presence in the Classic FM
Two radio ads starring Alexei Sayle have been produced by the Radio
Authority to increase awareness of the authority’s listener protection
role. One deals with programming complaints and the other with
advertising. The ads - which are accompanied by a booklet entitled ’How
to Make a Complaint’ - were written by the radio specialist, Commercial
Breaks, and every commercial radio station in the UK has undertaken to
run them for a three-week period next year.
The regional sales company, Amra, has been appointed by Clyde & Forth
Press to handle national and provincial sales across the West of
Scotland. Clyde & Forth Press is the largest independent newspaper
publishing group in Scotland and its portfolio includes the Greenock
Optimedia Spain has won dollars 32 million of new business this week.
The agency has picked up the dollars 30 million Spanish National Lottery
account, ONLAE, and dollars 2 million of Rothmans business.
Virgin Radio has launched its latest community service broadcast - the
third since Ginger Media Group bought the station. Safely Single is
designed to create awareness about sexually transmitted diseases among
single twenty- and thirtysomethings.
Permanent Publishing has been appointed to publish the new multi-board
sports magazine, Boardwise, from July. The magazine, which will come out
three times a year, will feature products from Boardwise stores and will
be used to generate customer loyalty.
Scottish Amicable is to sponsor London News Radio’s personal finance
news on the News Direct 97.3 station. The pounds 130,000 deal includes
bumpers on either side of the bulletins, which broadcast eight times per
week. The campaign will run for 26 weeks.
