Express Newspapers has appointed Richard Miller sales director,
circulation. Miller, who joins from Associated Newspapers where he was
sales and marketing manager, becomes a main board director and reports
to Paul Woolfenden, commercial director. He replaces Don Gray, who has
been appointed Express Newspapers’ first director of overseas
development, responsible for activities in Ireland and Europe.
At BBC Worldwide’s Good Food Awards last week, St Luke’s picked up the
award for the most imaginative and entertaining food and drink
advertising campaign for its ’don’t be a stranger’ work for Fox’s
Biscuits. Other finalists were Bartle Bogle Hegarty’s ’doctor’ spot for
Olivio, BMP DDB’s ’anniversary’ for the Meat & Livestock Commission and
Young & Rubicam’s ’rap’ for Sugar Puffs.
Emap On Air has appointed Richard Jacobs its sponsorship co-ordinator
across all Emap radio brands. Jacobs was previously the sponsorship and
promotions co-ordinator for the Box, and will now develop long-term
sponsorship opportunities for Kiss, Magic and Metro.
Media Solutions has promoted Graham Hawkey Smith to the post of media
planning director with a position on the board. Hawkey Smith joined the
Tempus-owned media specialist in 1994 from Leo Burnett and works on the
Cussons and Blockbuster accounts.
IPC’s IT director and chief information officer, Rene Carayol, is to
take board responsibility for new media, an area previously handled by
Sylvia Auton, managing director for IPC’s country and leisure
division.
Mike Matthew, IPC’s chief executive, said: ’There is a great deal of
synergy between new media and the IT group in terms of common skills and
services available.’
BSkyB has made two promotions in its marketing department. Sue Hartley
and Scott Menneer have moved up to become brand directors. The duo have
been heading the day-to-day running of the marketing department
following the departure of Jim Hytner, the former marketing director of
Sky, earlier this year.
IPC has appointed Ben Turner as editor of Muzic. At 24, he is IPC’s
youngest editor. Turner joined IPC in 1989 on work experience, looking
after Melody Maker’s picture library, and was involved in the
development and launch of Muzik in 1995.
Booth Lockett Makin has secured sponsorship of the GMTV regional weather
bulletin for its client, Tryton Foods. Tryton will use the platform as a
vehicle for its Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings range. The sponsorship
runs across the UK through to Christmas and includes four bulletins a
day.
The children’s cable and satellite channel, Fox Kids, has increased its
cable distribution through a three-year carriage deal with Cable &
Wireless Communications. The deal trebles Fox Kids’ cable market
penetration to more than 60 per cent. The channel is already available
on Sky’s multichannel package.
Total Media has rejigged its management, with Guy Sellers (left) and
Nigel Potter becoming joint managing directors, while the former
managing director, Mike Sell, has become chief executive. The group
account managers, Annie Lambert and Annemarie Laverty, have been
appointed directors of the Total Media board.
LLP Group has acquired 11 professional journals including Trademark
World, Patent World, Copyright World and titles in the accountancy and
insolvency area for pounds 7.65 million. David Gilbertson, LLP Group’s
chief executive, said: ’We aim to develop these acquisitions further
through exploiting electronic publishing opportunities.’
