Remy Cointreau in talks to centralise global media

LONDON - Remy Cointreau, the French drinks group behind alcohol brands including Cointreau, Piper-Heidsieck and Rémy Martin, is reviewing its global media account.

The global account is estimated to be worth £20m and Remy Cointreau is in talks to centralise the brief into one agency network.

As well as Cointreau and Piper-Heidsieck, the company manufactures spirits including Bols Blue Curaçao, the Italian liqueur Galliano, Metaxa brandy, Mount Gay and Saint James rums and Rémy Martin Cognac.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the only brands that have advertised in the UK in the past 12 months are Cointreau and Remy Martin Cognac. Starcom Motive currently handles Cointreau while AMS Media looks after Remy Martin.

Remy Cointreau distributes its UK brands via Maxxium, a joint venture with Highland Distillers and Fortune Brands' Jim Beam.

Calls for a boycott of French goods following president Jacques Chirac's stance on the Iraq war failed to damage the company's sales in the US.
