Commanding an enormous marketing budget of £160m, Larcombe has to consider the big, creative vision for the disruptive Virgin brand, as well as focusing on the minutiae of insight and data. This summer, the former News International marketer integrated mobile into Virgin Media’s offering, and described the brand’s flamboyant sponsorship of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as a "huge success". The brand’s advertising, starring Usain Bolt and David Tennant, continues to command high levels of recognition among the public, although one TV ad was banned by the ASA for containing insufficient information. Outside the workplace, Larcombe is just as active: surfing and wakeboarding feature high on his list of pastimes. His energy is currently being ploughed into developing Virgin Media’s ‘connected entertainment’ offering.
