As part of his five-date arena tour around the UK, Rod Stewart will open the 12,000-seater, purpose-built Glaswegian venue on 30 September.
The Hydro, which is sponsored by Scottish energy company SSE and part of the Scottish Exhibiton and Conference Centre (SECC), will also be one of the host venues for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
"I have been looking forward to this as I’ve watched The Hydro take shape," said Stewart. "2013 is a momentous year for me. I cannot wait to get back to Scotland and perform in front of a live audience at this spectacular venue."
The SECC expects to see more than one million visitors attend events at The Hydro on an annual basis, and believes it can contribute £131m to the local economy.
John Langford, director of concerts, ticketing and events at the Hydro, said: "We couldn't be more delighted that Rod Stewart will open The Hydro in September. Four performances. Fifty thousand fans. And a venue that will change the skyline of entertainment in Glasgow for ever."
