- Rover consolidated all its new media activity into the London new media agency AKQA. The move follows the agency's appointment to manage the Mini website.
AKQA already manages new media and internet activity for BMW and Rover. The mini account was formerly handled by APL Digital, which designed the original award-winning site. Billings for the account were not disclosed.
The current Mini site was originally designed as a global brand site for Mini. The new www.mini.co.uk site will be launched in the New Year and will be aimed at UK customers and enthusiasts. AKQA will also develop a global Mini brand site.
Alex Lowe, Rover UK Internet manager said: "Since its launch two years ago, the Mini web site has received praise from the industry and consumers. We have been delighted with the success it has achieved."
He added: "We appointed AKQA on the strength of their ideas, taking the Mini brand forward to the next millennium and achieving the objectives we have set out for the Internet and new media within the communications mix."
Ajaz Ahmed of AKQA, said: "It is the greatest honour to win a new task from an existing client. We are excited with the potential that the Mini brand provides and are looking forward to creating innovative work in a relevant direction."
