There were red faces at the weapons manufacturer BAE Systems recently, after an eagle-eyed MP spotted that it had made a big gaffe in one of its ads.
A poster, created in-house, featured the Union Flag behind the line: "Proud to support our armed forces." Unfortunately, the flag was shown upside down - which, in naval circles, is a distress signal. Bob Russell MP spotted the mistake, and told the London Evening Standard: "I trust they have greater attention to detail with what they design for the military." BAE Systems apologised for the error and, we'd like to think, gave its marketers a rocket.
