- Saatchi & Saatchi has appointed Candice Carpenter, the founder of US women's portal iVillage.com, to the board of Saatchi & Saatchi as a non-executive director.

Carpenter will advise the Saatchi & Saatchi board on internet developments and female focused brands. Last year Saatchi & Saatchi saw its online business grow by more than 150 per cent.

Bob Seelert, chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi, said: "Candice's leadership, creativity and understanding of the total communications universe make her a natural for the Saatchi & Saatchi board."

Carpenter launched iVillage.com 1995 and has since helped the portal become one of the biggest websites for women in the US. Last year it successfully floated on the New York NASDAQ exchange.

In February, iVillage announced it was to form a $200 million joint venture with Unilever to set up an e-commerce company to market beauty products in the US.
