Sainsbury's Bank appoints PHD for £4m media task

Sainsbury's Bank has hired PHD to its £4m media planning and buying account, aligning its media business with that of its supermarket parent.

The bank previously used Universal McCann for media planning and buying, although it was never officially a roster agency. PHD worked on the bank's recent TV campaign.

The appointment was overseen by marketing director Kate Nicholson, who was picked for the role last month following a ten-month search (Marketing, April 10).

Sainsbury's Bank, a joint venture between Sainsbury's and Halifax Bank of Scotland, signalled its intention last month to expand its roster of agencies as it aims to boost its 1.5 million customer base.

It has picked for web design and an announcement on a retail merchandising agency is expected shortly.

Sainsbury's Bank's roster agencies are McCann-Erickson Manchester, which handles direct marketing, CRM, e-commerce and digital media; 20:20, which manages retail development; and Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, which handles TV.
