Scottish Executive media up for review

The Scottish Executive has launched a statutory review of its media planning and buying account, worth up to £68 million over three-and-a-half years.

The account, which is held by MediaCom Scotland, includes a consortium of government agencies such as Visit Scotland, NHS Health, NHS 24, Quality Meat Scotland, Historic Scotland, the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Blood Transfusion Service.

The Scottish Executive has launched an open tender for the business and will shortlist agencies ahead of a pitch in the summer.

Roger Williams, the head of marketing for the Scottish Executive, said he hoped to make an appointment by mid-to-late summer. "The current contract expires at the end of July, but due to pressure on the procurement department, MediaCom has agreed to extend its contract to bridge the gap," Williams said.

He added that the new contract would take effect from 1 October and will cover an initial 20-month period, with the option to extend it for two one-year periods.

MediaCom Scotland has held the business since 2004.
