Scottish Media Group has continued its acquisitive streak by buying

the advertising brand familiar to every cinema-lover, Pearl & Dean.

This week the company, which owns The Herald newspaper in Glasgow,

confirmed it had bought P&D for pounds 22.2m, and has installed former

commercial director of The Herald and Evening News, as managing

director.

P&D has 30% of the market; Carlton Screen Advertising (previously Rank

Screen Advertising) controls the rest. Both plan to extend off-screen

advertising to foyer displays and ticket promotions.

This is the third acquisition by SMG. In February it bought outdoor

advertising company Primesight for pounds 35m. Two months ago it bought

another outdoor company, Baillie Advertising, for pounds 7.5m.

P&D sells advertising on 840 screens in the UK.
