Scottish Media in talks with Ginger Media Group

The talks come only a month after Ginger Media, the main assets of which are Virgin Radio and a television production company, abandoned its flotation plans. The planned flotation had valued Ginger at around £200 million.

SMG, however, is likely to pay considerably less, with a bid of around £150 to £165 million being mooted.

SMG's interests include Scottish and Grampian Television, and the Herald newspaper. It has made several acquisitions this year including the cinema advertising company, Pearl & Dean.

Talk of the sale has raised speculation that Evans' two main partners, the Virgin Group and venture capital firm Apax Partners, are keen to sell their stakes 20 per cent stakes.
