SEB to review £20m European media

Groupe SEB, the domestic appliances company, is reviewing its estimated £20 million pan-European media planning and buying business.

The French holding company, which owns brands including Tefal, Rowenta and Moulinex, is aiming to consolidate its media. It currently uses agencies on a market-by-market basis.

Networks including Zenith-Optimedia and Initiative are thought to be involved in a pitch for the business.

Groupe SEB spends around £3 million annually in the UK but its largest market is France. Equinox, the ZenithOptimedia subsidiary, handles UK planning and buying for the Tefal brand, which has spent £2 million on media in the past year.

Equinox has also worked on Rowenta, which hasn't spent significantly on advertising in the past 12 months.

SEB's sales for the first three quarters of 2005 rose by 5.8 per cent to £1.6 billion.

SEB has grown in recent years with the acquisition of Rowenta in 1988 and Moulinex in 2001. It makes a range of domestic products but specialises in cookware and home cleaning.
