Sledge to launch own family festival

Experiential agency Sledge has created a new family festival after discovering a gap in the market for family-friendly activities during the summer break.

Bounce Festival will take place on 10-11 August at Richmond Old Deer Park, south west London.

It was devised in response to research commissioned by Sledge, which surveyed more than 2,000 families on how they would be spending their summer break.

The study found that 62% of families with young children are staying in the UK this summer and are struggling to find ways to entertain their kids. Almost half of the families surveyed are planning a UK holiday and 62% will be looking to family days out to keep the kids entertained during the six-week break.

Given the choice 70% of the parents surveyed would prefer their kids to spend their time playing outside, with family days out a close second at 59%. Playing video games scored just 11.6% and watching TV 4.8%.

Bounce Festival will be hosted by children’s TV presenter Anna Williamson and is suitable for children up to 12 and their families.

Laura Capell, managing director of Sledge, said: "More and more families now spend the entire summer break in the UK, which has led to a need for more affordable and activity led family days out and 0-12 is a difficult age to cover. As experiential marketers and family specialists with 20 years’ of experience in the sector we identified this need and the outcome is Bounce Festival.

"We have listened to what the children really want and produced a fun, activity led, children focused festival, where art, craft, games, dance, nature and cooking are all equally important and will inspire activities for the rest of the holidays."
