Littlewoods has poached Susan Murray from Diageo to take on the

group marketing director’s role. She will form part of a team overseeing

a radical shake-up in the pools and retail group’s operation, where 500

senior managers have been offered redundancy.

Murray, formerly president and chief executive of Pierre Smirnoff, will

spearhead a campaign to make Littlewoods more marketing-led.

She will be responsible for restructuring the group’s 800-strong

marketing department as the company tries to reduce the number of top

management positions.

Murray said: ’I will be looking at the scale of marketing within the

organisation. There is a desire to be more marketing-led and focus on

satisfying the customer.’

In May Littlewoods announced it was restructuring and looking for a

group marketing director. Tony Hillyer, group marketing services

director in the retail division, will report to Murray.

Littlewoods and Granada have unveiled their joint-venture home shopping

channel Shop! It will air in mid-November on cable channels, digital

satellite channel Astra, and ONdigital.
