WCRS has raided the ranks of McCann-Erickson and BST-BDDP to plug

the gap left by its outgoing marketing director, Simon Toaldo.

Amy Smith, the marketing director of McCanns, will take on the same role

at WCRS, while Jonathan Hill is leaving BST to assume Toaldo’s

responsibilities as a senior account director handling Canon and

Mobil.

Toaldo, whose role as head of client services is still to be filled, is

to become managing director of Rapier Stead & Bowden (Campaign, 15

August).

Smith, who joined McCanns a year ago as part of a line-up forged by the

then incoming chief executive, Ben Langdon, was previously new-business

director at Simons Palmer Denton Clemmow and Johnson. She has also

worked in Sydney for Telecom Australia and was instrumental in setting

up Sydney’s equivalent of the Advertising Agency Register.

Hill, who has been at BST for four years, is a board account director

working on Thomas Cook, Reckitt and Colman, Michelin and Oddbins. Before

joining BST, which announced an impending merger with GGT last week,

Hill was an account director at Publicis.

Stephen Woodford, the managing director of WCRS, said of Smith: ’She’s

got an energetic personality combined with great drive and tenacity. New

business can often be a lonely role, but she’s got the right personality

to handle it and get the best out of us.’

Smith added: ’We’ve had a really terrific year (at McCanns), but I

wanted to get back into a strong creative agency again.

For me, it’s a better environment - taking a much more radical

approach.’
