Padley, who has been promoted to head of marketing from marketing manager, will replace Peter Marsden, who was made managing director of Sony Ericsson UK and Ireland at the start of the year.
Padley's remit will be to work across the business, liaising with the mobile operators and also heading all UK and Ireland marketing activity.
He will also work with the Sony Ericsson ad agency of record, Bartle Bogle Hegarty, and media agency mediaedge: cia but will not be responsible for the entire marketing budget of £5m as this is controlled regionally and then divided among its territories.
Padley's first task will be to oversee the launch of a range of mobile phones, which will be previewed at an industry event to be held in central London next week.
The phones aim to build on the success of the T610 model, which sold so well over Christmas that many operators were unable to fulfil customer demand.
