Consumers are being encouraged to follow the @RealD3DUK on Twitter or Facebook to keep up to date with where the hunt is located throughout the day. Once they have tracked the team down, they will be asked to show one of RealD's social media posts to claim a free Star Wars Google Cardboard.

The mobile virtual reality (VR) experience has been developed to promote Disney's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The tech combines a new story with exclusive visual content. It includes iconic characters and locations from the forthcoming film, specifically the planet of Jakku and the character BB-8.

The treasure hunt will take place across the capital until 5.30pm.
