Mark Cranmer is stepping down from his role as managing director of Starcom Motive and has appointed Iain Jacob to take over day-to-day management of the agency.
Cranmer will now concentrate on his role as the chief executive of the Starcom MediaVest Group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Jacob will take on the UK Starcom Motive managing director mantle.
The move sees Jacob promoted from executive client services director and he will now sit above the former Starcom joint managing directors, David Connolly and Richard Beaven, and Motive's former broadcast chief Andy Roberts.
Jacob will take on management responsibility for Starcom Motive Direct and the company's new-media offering, Starcom IP. He will also work with sister media agency MediaVest to find new ways of leveraging group resources. 'We are now in a position both as an individual agency and as a group to form and lead the market, rather than follow it,' Jacob said this week.
Cranmer said: 'Iain has the ability to be able to combine brilliant strategic thinking with practical application. I have no doubt he will now lead the UK business on to greater achievements.'
Jacob's promotion is also designed to allow Cranmer to concentrate on driving the SMG proposition throughout Europe; Gary Brown, the head of Starcom in Asia who has been appointed as SMG's European operating director (Campaign, 15 December), is due to join the company in early spring.
