The campaign, created by DDB London, returns to the T-Birds characters created by Aardman Animations, the company behind 'Wallace & Gromit'.
In the 40-second spot "cupboard", the T-Birds are shown reacting to historic moments over the past 75 years, as they reach inside the kitchen cupboard for the PG Tips. Events include the Wallace Simpson scandal in the 1930s to the ongoing and frequently dashed hopes of the British public at Wimbledon.
The ad was written and art directed by Mike Hannett and Dave Buchanan at DDB London. It launches this week and runs until March 27 on national TV and in cinemas.
PG Tips was recently boosted by the news that it was Tom Hanks' favourite teabag, with the actor saying he had lost weight by switching from milky cafe lattes to drinking black tea. He picked up the habit when shooting 'Saving Private Ryan' in England.
Last summer, the brand launched a decaffeinated variant called PG Tips DCaf, aimed at health-conscious female tea drinkers.
