- Market information group Taylor Nelson Sofres Plc said on Friday it acquired UK television and radio monitoring company Tellex Monitors Ltd for an undisclosed price.

Taylor Nelson said the deal fitted in with its strategy of building a European network of media intelligence services and would complement its monitoring companies in France and Spain.

"Demand for media monitoring continues to grow with the proliferation, in particular, of new broadcasting channels," Executive Chairman Tony Cowling said in a statement.

Turnover for Tellex - founded in 1954 and previously owned by The Press Association - was 5.9 million pounds for the year to December 31, 1998, when net assets stood at 1.0 million. ((London newsroom, +44 171 542 4019, fax +44 171 583 3769, uk.equities.news@reuters.com)).
