TBWA GGT MERGER: Making room at the top for the key staff

Paul Simons

Paul Simons

Currently the chief executive of TBWA Simons Palmer, Simons now moves

across to become the chairman of the newly formed TBWA UK group, a

collection of marketing services companies that will include Tequila

Option One, BDH Communications, Maher Bird Associates, Payne Stracey and

Manning Gottlieb Media. Simons’ role is to manage the business issues

and potential conflicts that bind or threaten these various companies.

He will report to Michael Greenlees.

Grant Duncan

Now the managing director of GGT, Duncan takes the American title of

chief operating officer in the new set-up and maintains client

responsibility for Holsten, John Smith’s and Telewest. He will play a

key role in bringing the two agencies together.

’The only way we will create great creative work is if the place is

organised,’ he says.

Neil Christie

Thanks to the recent departures of two senior account men - Robert

Senior and Michael Wall - to launch Fallon McElligott in the UK,

Christie emerges as sole managing director of the new shop with a brief

to look at future strategy, complementing Duncan’s more internal one.

Originally at TBWA, Christie will continue to take charge of TBWA’s

flagship account, Nissan.

Simon Clemmow

One of the founders of Simons Palmer and its respected planning

director, Clemmow will be the joint executive planning director with

Chris Baker. He now takes charge of an enlarged department of 17

planners. Clemmow met Simons and Johnson at GGT.

Chris Baker

A founder of BST in 1990, Baker will be joint executive planning

director on the same level as Simon Clemmow. His brief is outward

focused, with some emphasis on client issues but more on future

strategy, new business and public speaking on behalf of the new agency.
