British Design and Art Direction jurors awarded two golds and 39
silvers at the 1998 D&AD Awards held at Olympia before an audience of
2,500 on Wednesday.
Golds went to the title sequence for Gattaca, and to Harvey Nichols for
its ’autumn intrusion’ display.

BMP DDB won three silvers for its memorable campaign for Volkswagen.
’Lamp post’ won a silver for TV commercials up to 30 seconds; ’hiccups’,
’dentist’, ’chair’ and ’lamp post’ won a silver for TV campaigns and
’protection’ also picked up a silver for cinematography.
The President’s Award was given by Tim Mellors to David Bailey. Mellors
commented: ’David Bailey is the most fashionable photographer of all
