Cadbury Schweppes has handed the #3 million creative account for
its soft drink, Oasis, to TBWA GGT Simons Palmer after a four-way
pitch.
TBWA pitched against the Advertising Brasserie, Duckworth Finn Grubb
Waters and Mountain View for the fruit and mineral water brand, which
came up for grabs in August after Cadbury Schweppes split with the
incumbent, Saatchi & Saatchi. TBWA already handles a number of Cadbury
brands including Dairy Milk, Flake and Wispa. Media, with Zenith, is
unaffected by the move.
Paul Bainsfair, the chairman of TBWA, commented: ’Oasis is a wonderful
brand and a wonderful advertising opportunity. We have developed a very
exciting idea and we can’t wait to get going.’
Andrew Mann, the marketing director for Cadbury Schweppes in the UK and
Ireland, added: ’All the agencies were very strong contenders. TBWA will
help us to achieve our objective of accelerating activity on Oasis in
1999, building on the success the brand has had this year.’
Saatchis, which launched Oasis in 1995, resigned the account in
August.
The agency cited a conflict of interest with Sunny Delight, the fruit
drink launched by Saatchis for Procter & Gamble last year.
Saatchis’ ’open, pour, be yourself once more’ campaign for Oasis
features the voice of the drag comedian, Lily Savage, and a succession
of TV personalities, including Terry Venables, each of whom revert to
type when they drink Oasis.
