Times nets web league sponsors

The Sunday Times client sales team has won sponsorship for its new league table of the top 100 internet businesses in Europe.

The Sunday Times client sales team has won sponsorship for its new

league table of the top 100 internet businesses in Europe.

eLeague is the first web league created by a national newspaper and is

sponsored by KPMG, Cazenove & Co, Oracle and Hewlett Packard.

Some of the top positions are occupied by Sportal, Boxman, the music and

games site, Mondus.com, the office services e-commerce site, and

Netdoktor.com.

A requirement was that the businesses had to be pre-IPO.

The judging panel included representatives from the four sponsors plus

Sunday Times business editor John Jay, with the assistance of internet

consultancy the Bathwick Group.

The league table was published in a special 32-page supplement in The

Sunday Times on 2 July and on the paper’s website.

Each of the four sponsors received a full-page ad plus a 1,000 word

editorial written by Sunday Times journalists covering the companies’

internet business services.

The companies were judged on management, marketing strategy, customer

relations, partnerships and functionality, as well as the number of

online visitors they receive.

In addition, head of client sales Trevor Pryer revealed The Times and

Sunday Times were building what they claim is the most comprehensive

Olympic Games website in the UK. It will contain more than 1,000 pages

and will go live at the end of July.

Print and online sponsorship packages linked to the games are being sold

by the client sales team.
