Tip for the top: Job interviews

Job interviews can be a bit of a lottery. So how do you shorten the odds in your favour? A lot of people don't realise that what they do before an interview will have more to do with their eventual success than anything else. Do your homework and you'll come across as organised and self-assured and dramatically increase your chances of landing the job you want.

Things to remember

- Don't simply fill in the application form and return it. Always send a covering letter saying why you think you're particularly suited for the job.

- Prepare. Know what points you want to get across in your answers.

- Many interviewers have had no training and sometimes dry up. Do what you can to help them along and put yourself in their favour.

- Remember interviews are two-way streets. You can ask questions too.
