Tip for the top: Passing the test

Interviews are no longer simple chats rambling around the foothills of the applicant's CV. These days the use of tests has given job interviews an almost scientific dimension. The science of interviewing

- Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: this tests your personal and professional style against 16 personality types. There are no right or wrong answers.

- Psychometric tests: again, these are about testing your personality and how you interact with other people. The best advice on how to handle this sort of test is to answer honestly, rather than trying to second-guess what the interviewer is looking for.

- IQ tests: these are a little more specific in that they measure numeracy, language skills, reasoning and so on. But very few jobs require an employee to be intelligent and nothing more.
